Medical Imaging and Imaging Informatics , Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Medical Imaging & Imaging Informatics (MIII) will prepare students for a career in biomedical imaging, image processing and medical imaging informatics, including Picture Archiving & Communication Systems (PACS). Topics covered include PACS application servers; digital-based tele-consultation with medical images; PACS-based CAD, informatics infrastructure of micro CT, MR, and PET; image-based neurosurgical Comm and Module; PACS simulator; image security in HIPAA environment; bone age assessment from a hand digital atlas; homeland defense strategies; medical simulation and modeling; data grid for image data disaster recovery; Cyberknife information system for brain tumor treatment; DICOM-based radiotherapy information system; and much more.

Program of Study

Recommended course plan:
- Fall: BME 527
- Spring: BME 528, BME 525
Notes:
- Students must complete all three required courses for the graduate certificate. Course substitutions or waivers are not permitted.
- For BME MS students, certificate courses may be double-counted toward the technical elective requirements of their degree program. Please consult with an academic advisor to determine how the courses may apply to your degree requirements.
- Students interested in expanding their expertise may pursue either certificate individually or apply to complete both graduate certificates.

- Current Viterbi Graduate Students (MS/PhD)
- Students currently enrolled in a Viterbi graduate program (MS or PhD) are eligible to add a graduate certificate to their degree program by submitting your application here: BMDA & MIII Graduate Certificate Application Form – Fill out form.
- Graduate Students Outside of Viterbi (Graduate medical students from the Keck School of Medicine are encouraged to apply.)
