USC’s Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering (ASBME) has had a busy start to the year, with a range of events to support its growing community of students.
ASBME President Luann Raposo said the student-run organization focuses on serving the USC Viterbi School of Engineering community by designing and implementing a comprehensive calendar of academic, social, outreach, professional and mentoring events. She said the organization brings together a broad range of engineering students who have a shared interest in the many facets of biomedical engineering.
“This variety of events allows students to explore the endless possibilities and opportunities in the biomedical engineering field, “ Raposo said.
ASBME, which coordinates and produces the annual BME Makeathon event, was honored with the 2018 Student Chapter Outstanding Achievement Award from the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).
In addition to the Makeathon, ASBME recently held the 23rd Annual Corporate Dinner, a joint event with Graduate Students of Biomedical Engineering (GSBME), that connected over 95 student attendees with more than 25 corporate representatives and faculty members.
Meanwhile the GSBME, has also been serving the BME graduate student community with a busy program of events during late 2018 and early 2019. Students recently took part in Lunar New Year celebrations, a free Matlab tutorial, a Pi Day mixer, and a variety of other opportunities to network with their peers.
