Deborah Chin, PhD student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been awarded an American Heart Association (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowship.
Chin is a second year PhD student under the direction of Dr. Eun Ji Chung.
The AHA fellowship program aims to enhance the integrated research of promising students pursuing careers as scientists who are aiming to improve global cardiovascular health. The award is a two-year fellowship, funding a stipend for the student.
With this support, Chin will be developing nanoparticles capable of detecting calcium and delivering gene therapy to mitigate harmful calcification in atherosclerosis, a disease characterized by plaque build-up in arteries.
