The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering warmly welcomes Jenny Treweek who joins USC as a Gabilan Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering in January 2019. Currently, she is a National Association for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD) Young Investigator and postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Viviana Gradinaru, Division of Biology and Bioengineering at Caltech in Pasadena, Calif.
As an undergraduate, Treweek received a B.S. from Caltech in Chemistry and Economics, and her PhD in Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif. During her PhD with Professor Kim Janda’s group, she conducted research at the interface between immunology and neuropharmacology. Major projects included developing passive vaccination strategies for treating drug abuse, investigating the in vivo relevance of methamphetamine-initiated advanced glycation end product formation in the pathophysiological symptoms of chronic methamphetamine addiction, and finally, studying the role of corticotropin releasing factor receptor type-1 signaling in maladaptive states. Her postdoctoral research has encompassed two main areas: (1) the optimization of tissue-clearing methodologies; and (2) the systems neuroscience investigation of a sparse, understudied population of dopaminergic cells in the dorsal raphe nucleus.
In her new lab at USC, Treweek will examine the physiological function of stress-related neuropeptide circuits using advanced neuroscience techniques.
