Project Title: Time-varying closed-loop modeling of circulatory control in sleep-disordered breathing

Research Statement:

A human at any ages can suffer from Sleep-Disordered Breathing (SDB). One of the severe SDB is Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS). In addition, the well-known SDB is Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). Moreover, it has been found that OSAS patient has autonomic control dysfunction. And, OSAS, eventually, leads to cardiovascular diseases.

In this study, we apply time-varying closed-loop modeling of circulatory control to: 1) investigate the effects of repetitive arousal on circulatory control in healthy young adults, and 2) assess the function of the circulatory control in pediatric OSAS and CCHS during cold face test, hyperoxic hypercapnic and isocapnic hypoxic rebreathing challenge.
